Myth Busting the Da Vinci Code

April 23, 2006
John 7: 40-46
Dr. Roger Ferguson, Sr. Pastor

THEME: The Da Vinci Code is a bestseller and will be released as a major motion picture. Though it is fiction, it uses real historical names to imply that Christianity as we know it is a conspiracy. Do you know the truth and can you explain it to the skeptic? Your life and eternity depend on how you answer.

I. Myths about the Da Vinci Code:

Myth#1:The Da Vinci Code is accurate.

"But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness,
your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion
to Christ. For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not
preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received,
or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this
beautifully. For I consider myself not in the least inferior to the
most eminent apostles."
II Corinthians 11:3-5 NASB

Myth #2:Jesus was merely a great teacher

"My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all: and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand."
John 10:29-30 NASB

Myth #3: The Holy Grail is really Mary Magdalene.

Myth #4:There is an anti-feminine conspiracy in the church.

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.
Galatians 3:28-29 NASB

Myth #5: Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married had a baby and that baby became the bloodline for this secret society down through history

II. Study the facts and decide who Jesus is by faith.
(John 7:40-46)

1. Educate yourself with truth.

2. Stimulate lost friends with the 21 day test.

"and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain."
I Corinthians 15:14 NASB

Make it practical:

The Da Vinci Code is a tool to strengthen Orthodox Christianity and help lost people know Christ.

1. Will you explore the truth of the Bible and history to counter error?
2. Who will you invite to take the "21 Day" test with you?
3. Have you trusted Christ as your Leader and asked Him to forgive your sin?
