A Picture of God

February 19, 2006

Mark 12:1-11

Dr. Roger Ferguson, Sr. Pastor

THEME: Today's Scripture shows Jesus telling an earthly

story with an eternal meaning. Jesus captures our

attention and draws a picture of God. As you

think of the wonder and care of God, what should

be your response?

I. God is GREAT and he GUIDES us.

(Mark 12:1-2)

II. God is PATIENT and he PROVIDES

for us. (Mark 12:3-5)

"The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is
patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to
repentance." 2 Peter 3:9 (NASB)

III. God is PURE LOVE and He sent His Son.

(Mark 12:6-8)

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
John 3:16 (NASB)

"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still
sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 (NIV)

IV. God's judgment is SEVERE and

SURE. (Mark 12:9-11)

"Or did you think that because He's such a nice God, He'd let you off
the hook? Better think this one through from the beginning. God is
kind, but He's not soft. In kindness He takes us firmly by the hand and
leads us into a radical life-change.

You're not getting by with anything. Every refusal and avoidance of God
adds fuel to the fire. The day is coming when it's going to blaze hot
and high, God's fiery and righteous judgment. Make no mistake: In the
end you get what's coming to you. Real Life for those who work on God's
side, but to those who insist on getting their own way and take the
path of least resistance, Fire!"

Romans 2:4-8 (Message)

Make it practical:

1. Thank God for being patient and loving toward us when He has every
reason to reject us.

2. As you look at what you think and talk about, as well as how you use
your time and treasure, is there anything that needs to change to honor
God?

3. Pray FBCO members will always show a clear picture of God to a lost
world.
