Gems from a Genealogy

Matthew 1:1-17
December 4, 2005

Theme Matthew 1 is a list of difficult names in the genealogy of Jesus. God orchestrated everything to bring Jesus into the world. What do you need today? Chances are you will find it in the genealogy of Jesus if you look close enough.

I. Gem #1: God REACHES out to us in MERCY. (Matt. 1:1-6)
II. Gem #2: IGNORING God invites JUDGEMENT. (Matt. 1:7-12)

“As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, as the heart of David his father had been.” Kings 11:4

What one generation ABHORS the next generation TOLERATES and the third generation TOLERATES and the third generation EMBRACES.

“Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocks. A man reaps what he sows. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

III. Gem #3: God is FAITHFUL to keep His PROMISES. (Matt. 1:13-16)

“God’s secret plan has now been revealed to us. It is a plan centered on Christ, designed long ago according to his good pleasure. And this is his plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ-everything in heaven and on earth.” Ephesians 1:9, 10 (NLT)

Act on what you know:
Truth is not real until it is applied. Use the following questions to apply Scriptural truth today.

1. What one thing does God want you to do as a result of hearing God’s Word?
2. Thank God that he sent Jesus to make us right with Himself.
3. Who can you share Christ with this week?
