Living Beyond Myself

Colossians 4:7-18
July 15, 2007
Dr Roger Ferguson, Sr. Pastor

Theme: If God was finished with you, He’d take the Christians to Heaven. When Christ saves you, He supernaturally empowers you with Spiritual gifts to strengthen the church and win the lost. Can you name your spiritual gifts? How are you using them to exalt Christ and extend His Kingdom?

I. God selects you for His team called the Church and you have a vital role to fulfill.

“It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.”
Ephesians 4:11-12

II. When you live beyond yourself for Christ, then you

1. Can be trusted to remain faithful during hard times like Tychicus.
Colossians 4:7-8

“The greatest ability is dependability.” Warren Wiersbe

2. Learn from your failures and get back in the game like Onesimus and Mark.
(Colossians 4:9,10b)

3. Bear the burdens of ministry like Aristarchus and Jesus. (Colossians 4:10,11)
“The man who puts the ball through the hoop has 10 hands.” John Wooden

4. Bathe ministry in prayer like Epaphras.
Colossians 4:12,13

“God never gives discernment so that we may criticize but that we may intercede. If your day is hemmed in by prayer, it is less likely to come unraveled.” Oswald Chambers
5. Will you employ your gifts like Luke or will you squander opportunity like Demas?
Colossians 4:14
“I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” Isaiah 49:16

Put truth into action and act on what you’ve heard:
How will you be different because of today’s teaching?
Thank God that Heaven will be full of joy when we see how God empowered our availability and supernatural things happened.
Have you asked Jesus to forgive your sins and be the leader of your life? How you followed Christ in baptism since being saved?
