How to Grow in Love

May 20, 2007
Song of Solomon 7-8
Dr. Roger Ferguson, Sr. Pastor

Theme: The longer a couple is married, the more challenges a couple faces. Couples who grow in love turn obstacles into opportunities in God-honoring ways. What are you doing to improve the relationship you are in?

I. We evaluate others by their actions but we evaluate ourselves by our intentions.

II. Guidelines for men:

1. Praise your wife in specific ways.
(Song of Solomon 7:1-4)

2. Value your wife's character.
(Song of Solomon 7:5-9)

III. Guidelines for women:

1. Appreciate your husband for who he is.
(Song of Solomon 7:10-13)

2. Express affection to your husband.
(Song of Solomon 8:1-4)

IV. If you want improvements,, work on yourself before the Lord.

"Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain."
Psalm 127:1

Do your homework:
Truth heard is quickly forgotten. Truth put into practice becomes part of you. During the next 24 hours do the following:
1. Praise your spouse for something you appreciate about him/her.
2. If you have kids, say one good thing to them about their mom/dad.
3. Have you trusted Christ as your Lord and asked Him to forgive you?
