Theme: Relationships are made up of sinners who are naturally selfish.
When Christ transforms a heart, He renews us to live for His glory rather than our immediate gratification.
Relationships thrive where they learn to work through issues in a way that honors God and helps others. Are you seeking to honor God or just to please yourself?
1. Root causes of conflict.
1. Different expectations. (Song of Solomon 5:2)
2. Self- centered. (Song of Solomon 5:3)
3. Pride (Song of Solomon 5:4)
II. Rules of engagement for resolving conflict:
1. Take the initiative_ to repent and restore a relationship.
(Song of Solomon 5:5-6)
"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
Romans 12:21
2. Speak affirmation and respect them.
(Song of Solomon 5:10-16) & 6:8-9)
3. Die to self and live for Christ.
"This is a profound mystery-but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband."
Ephesians 5:32-33
Do your HOMEwork:
Truth that is acted on within 24 hours becomes part of our lifestyle.
Truth neglected is soon forgotten. Act on truth today.
1. Since this is Mother's Day, everyone say a good word and do a good deed for mom that she is not expecting!
2. How do you need to take initiative to restore or deepen a relationship?
3. Have you asked Christ to forgive your sin and be the Leader of your life?
