What Makes a Beautiful Marriage?

April 22, 2007
Hebrews 13:4-6
Dr. Roger Ferguson, Sr. Pastor

Theme: Millions of people will marry this year. Marriage is a covenant relationship between God, a man and a woman. God wants couples to make choices that put the other first and honor God. Marriage is not 50/50. It is giving 100/100! If you are not married, you may be one day so pay attention. If you are married, evaluate your marriage and determine what God would have you to do to enhance your marriage.

I. Beautiful marriages occur where couples cultivate communication.
Heb. 13:4a

Helps for clear communication:

1. 60 seconds of silence

2. 72 hour junk rule

3. Bedtime rule

4. Seek to understand before being understood.

II. Beautiful marriages are committed for life.
Heb. 13:5-6

Be committed to........

1. Your marriage

2. Your mate

3. Your Master

"And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart."
Ecclesiastes 4:12

Do Your Homework:

During our iFamily emphasis do the following to strengthen your home under God:

1. Make a list of ten things you like about each family member. Don't show them the list. Instead inject sincere compliments into your conversations.
2. Pray for each family member daily.
3. Pray together with your spouse at least three times a week if you are
not already-before bed, as you get up, over the phone during the day, after journaling together.
4. Pray every family at FBCO will be strengthened during this time and that we can invite our unchurched friends.
5. Have you asked Christ to forgive your sin and be the Leader of your life and followed Him in believer's baptism?

Right on. My wife and I used the Cord of Three Stands as a visual reminder of the miracle God performs in uniting us in marriage.
