Preparing for Marriage

Genesis 2:18-25
Dr. Roger Ferguson, Sr. Pastor
Theme: How we prepare for something determines success. God authored marriage. When we prepare for it God's way, we plan for success. Anything less is not an option. If you are not married, put this into practice. If you are married, do all you can to adjust your life to God.
I. Fulfill God-given needs in God-honoring ways.
1. Adam had a perfect environment.
2. Adam had the best place in life.
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19 (NASB)
3. Sin is a shortcut that leads to a dead-end.
"Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful is hard."
Proverbs 13:15 (NIV)
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they
shall be satisfied."
Matthew 5:6 (NASB)
II. What to look for in a mate and cultivate in yourself.
1. A fully-devoted follower of Jesus.
2. Someone who learns to communicate so they don't deteriorate.
3. Finances that are a tool
not a tyrant.
10% - tithe
10% - save
80% - live on it
4. Future committed to God's glory.
Act on what you've learned:
Truth put into practice changes a life. Everything else is forgotten.
Today, do the following:
1. Commit your life fully to Christ-no excuses!
2. Examine your finances and make a plan for financial peace God's way.
3. Ask your spouse how you can communicate better with them.
4. Thank the Lord for the freedom we enjoy in America. Thank a veteran for helping to preserve that freedom.
