October 22, 2006
Matthew 22:34-40
Dr. Roger Ferguson, Sr. Pastor
Theme: If someone told you that if you did two thing, you'd be a phenomenal success, would you do it? Jesus gave the two great commands. Do you know what they are? How are you doing in fulfilling them?
I. The main command is to love God supremely.
(Matt. 22:36-37)
1. Supreme love is withholding nothing from him.
"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
2 Corinthians 10:5
II. Loving God supremely means we:
Matt. 22:37-38
1. Become a student of your loved one that communicates,
"My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."
James 1:19
2. Grow in appreciative reflection.
Philippians 4:8-9
3. Supreme love gives your best.
Make it Practical:
To be a success at what counts God says to do things. The first is to love God supremely. The second command we'll talk about next week.
1. This week what can you do to enhance your love for God?
2. Do those who watch you see God's love through you?
3. Thank God that He gave His best in Jesus for us!
