Matthew 5:5

Dr. Roger Ferguson, Sr. Pastor

THEME: If someone told you a guaranteed way to experience life to the fullest, would you be interested? In Matthew 5:1-12 there are principles that show how anyone can experience life the way that can only be explained as the grace of God. The “Jesus life” is the best way now and forever!

Realize that I’m not God. “I’m helpless on my own!”
Earnestly understand God exists and He cares. “I believe God can help me!”
Fully yield myself and my will to Christ’s control.
“God is my coach!”

Memory Verse: Repent then and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” Acts 3:19

I. Meekness (gentleness) is strength under control. .

II. Blockages to experiencing a life of God’s blessing:

1. P ride
“The wise of heart will receive commands, But a babbling fool will be ruined.” Proverbs 10: 8

G uilt
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

3. F ear
“There is no fear in love because perfect love casts out fear.” I John 4:18

4. W orry
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

III. Putting Christ in control makes me a Christ- follower.

1. A decision: yield my life to Christ’s control.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.
Romans 12:1

2. A process: surrender my will to Christ’s control.

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.”
Philippians 2:12-13

Today will you…
1. Ask Christ to forgive your sin and lead your life?
2. Follow Jesus in believer’s baptism as God commands?
3. Live in His strength to change you rather than pride, guilt, fear or worry.
4. Rejoice that the same grace of God that saved you can sustain you through anything!
