THEME: Government tries to fix broken financial and manufacturing institutions and some think it will fail and others think it will be corrected. Families are hurting but they don’t need fixing. Instead we must return to the Biblical blue-print for parent/child relationships. The Heavenly Father designed family and knows how it works.

Let’s study it!

I. The Gospel of Jesus Christ liberates the

family . (Eph. 6:1)

“Parent” means “in the place of God”.

II. What God and Godly parents want

children to know. (Eph. 6:1-4)

1. “No parent or child is perfect.”

2. “If you learn to obey today, you’ll avoid a

painful tomorrow.”

3. “Your parent doesn’t want to constrict you

but to release you.”

Now, it’s your turn:

1. Parent, you are God’s chosen instrument to shape the children He’s entrusted you to raise in His image. Ask God to help you lead your home by instruction and example.

2. Children, circle the sub-point under #2 where God spoke to you and adjust your attitude to follow Christ in that area.

3. All of us, tell that special dad, grandfather, etc. how grateful you are for him.

4. Have you asked Christ to save you and be the Leader of your life?

I. Each of us must follow God’s Sovereign loving direction. (Ephesians 5:21-22)

II. God encourages wives to trust Him in loving submission . (Ephesians 5:22-24)

1. Submission doesn’t mean women are inferior or are trapped in a violent situation.

Surviving Satan’s Sifting

apostles. When Christ needed Peter most, Peter bumbled
his opportunity. Christ’s incredible love took Peter’s failure
and turned it to victory. If you heed God’s Word, He can
bring beauty out of the ugliest of situations. His grace is
sufficient! Will you cast yourself on Christ?

I. Satan wants to expose your flaws while Christ helps you overcome any challenge.

Love: Real or Counterfeit?

THEME: Many speak of love but few experience it. God is pure love and He created us in His image. What God creates, Satan will try to corrupt. Christians must choose to follow God’s way and expose the sham of counterfeit love. Are you living in His genuine love or are you settling for a counterfeit?

I. God’s pattern for genuine love. (Ephesians 5:1-2)

Agape love is:

1. Pure “How would Jesus respond?” (Ephesians 5:1)

2. Unconditional (Ephesians 5:2a)

3. self-sacrificing (Ephesians 5:2b)

II. The built-in pain of counterfeit love:
(Ephesians 5:3-7)

1. Sexual immorality craters a relationship.
(Ephesians 5:3)

2. Reckless talk ruins friendships. (Ephesians 5:4)

3. Greed robs value. (Ephesians 5:5-7)

How about you? Real or counterfeit?
Use the following diagnostic questions to evaluate whether you are experiencing real or counterfeit love.
1. Jesus is real love. Have you asked Christ to forgive your sin and be the leader of the life He gave you?
2. How are you practicing the 3 qualities under #1 above?
3. Has any counterfeit attitude or practice seeped into your life?
4. Who can you invite to Easter to celebrate Jesus, the lover of your soul?

How to Handle Anger

THEME: Godly anger can be your ally to solve a problem. Ungodly anger is your enemy destroying you and hurting those you love. God made us, sin scars us and God renews us.

I. The roots of all anger.

1. Frustration
2. Fear
3. Hurt

II. Channel Godly anger into
correcting a wrong. (Ephesians 4:25-26a)

1. Never attack a person but always address a
problem.

III. Confess repressed anger because it
imprisons you. (Ephesians 4:26b-30)

IV. Control your exploding anger by harnessing it into
constructive actions. (Ephesians 4:31-32)

Think it over:
1. How can you direct your anger into what honors God?
2. What anger is enslaving you and you need to repent of?
3. Thank God there is no problem we have that His power cannot overcome.
4. Have you asked Jesus to forgive your sins and lead your life? If so, follow Him in Believer’s Baptism.

Who Do You Know?

Introduction: We have been having fun with the political theme as we have approached FAITH this semester. You see, politics is a lot like getting into Heaven. It’s who you know that gets you in.

Jesus had a conversation with His Disciples once about who they knew This is what we are looking at today.
1. Jesus said He is the Way. People all over are looking for
purpose.
2. Jesus said He is the Truth. People all over are looking for truth
that they can build their lives on. People want a foundation that
is solid—not changing or shifting.
3. Jesus said He is the Life—full and abundant life and the only way
to Eternal life.
Two questions:
· Do you know Jesus? Do you really know him...Do you have a personal relationship with Him?
· Who do you know that doesn’t know Jesus? Who do you know that doesn’t have a personal relationship with Him?

1. Who do you know?
“Philip said “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us. Jesus answered “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time?” John 14:8-9a

Do you know Jesus? Circle one…. Yes No

2. How well do you know Jesus?
· The more you know Jesus, the more you will talk about Him.
· The more you know Jesus the more you unashamedly tell others about Him.

3. How do you make the Father known?
Write down what you do to make the Father known to those around you
on an hour to hour basis.

Sometimes we can let on that we know someone when really we do not; or we have met them—just never grew in our relationship….

Two of the saddest things to happen to someone:
1. Attend a funeral of a friend and not know if they were a Christian.
2. Someone attend your funeral and not know if you
were a Christian

Change that Lasts

Nehemiah 9

THEME: Psychologists tell us it takes a minimum of six weeks
doing something different. Therefore most of us never
change, even when we know the change brings
improvement. God will move you to healthy change and
give you the strength to do it. To not change is sin.
In Nehemiah God rebuilt the people as the people
repaired the walls. Ask God to help you change in
the ways that honor Him and help us.

For change to last understand that……….

1. Your past may explain you but it doesn’t excuse you. (Nehemiah 9:1-2)
2. You must nourish your soul with Bible Study and prayer. (Nehemiah 9: 3)
3. Do what honors God and trust the consequences to Him. (Nehemiah 9:5-38)

Think it over:
Put action to the Bible message by thinking through the following:

1. How has God used both the painful and the helpful things from the past to shape you into His image?

2. Write one benefit of prayer and Bible study to you.

Diverting Distractions

THEME: Satan appears as your best friend and disguises himself as an “angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14) who will do you a favor. His horrific destruction follows if you are deceived. On the other hand God promises His presence and provision to those who honor Him. Will you be distracted or a “fully devoted follower of Christ”?

I. Satan’s ________________ of distractions:

1. Ungodly compromise which promises you’ll benefit. (Nehemiah 6:1-4)

“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” I Corinthians 10:12

2. Criticism slanted to discourage. (Nehemiah 6:5-9)

3. Induced fear that God will fail you if you follow Him. (Nehemiah 6:10-14)

II. Destroy Satan’s arsenal with full devotion to Christ:

1. Keep doing what honors God. (Nehemiah 6:5)

2. Ignore critics and stay on task.
(Nehemiah 6:8-9)

3. Replace fear with faithful action and watch God show up! (Nehemiah 6:15)

Live in the light of God’s love!
II Corinthians 10:5 tells us to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. With that in mind what will you do with what you have heard today?
1. Which of Satan’s arsenals are you most vulnerable to?
2. What will you do differently starting today?
3. Today, why don’t you ask Christ to forgive your sin and lead your life?

The Strength of Humility?

THEME: There are two types of people in every age. One is the shallow, razzle-dazzle, “all about me” type. The other type of person does everything with excellence and for the glory of God. The first type flourishes then fizzles. The second type honors God, helps others and is contagious to follow. The second changes families, businesses and culture for God’s glory. What are you believing God for today? How do your actions demonstrate faith in Him?

I. The strength of humility is shown by doing more than is expected. (Nehemiah 5:14-18)

Time + Consistency = Influence

II. The strength of humility grows from a genuine fear of God. (Nehemiah 5:15b, 19)

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts have good understanding. To Him belongs eternal praise.”
Psalm 111:10

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
Proverbs 1:7

I. Allow God to do work in you before He does a work through you. (Nehemiah 2:11)

“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.” Genesis 6:8 (NIV)

II. Do a thorough inspection before you give direction. (Nehemiah 2:12-16)

1. Expose critics and learn from them. (Nehemiah 2:10,19-20)

III. Lay out the plan and involve the people to build for the glory of God. (Nehemiah 2:17-20)

1. Identify with the need as you describe asolution to the problem. (Nehemiah 2:17,18)

THEME: Leadership is influence. God changes the world through people who are fully devoted to Him. In business, family and church God is rebuilding society through people who have vision from God. Are you one of them?

I. The power of a rebuilder is prayer.
(Nehemiah 1:11; 2:5)

1. A rebuilder knows God changes
hearts. (Nehemiah 1:11)

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; He directs it like a watercourse wherever He pleases.” Proverbs 21:1

2. Rebuilders pray for an opportunity
rather than a miracle. (Nehemiah 2:1-5)

II. The plan of a Rebuilder:
(Nehemiah 2:6-8)

1. Rebuilders are faithful in the present,
prepare for the future and they don’t
stay stuck in the past.

“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.” II Chronicles 16:9a

2. God’s favor rests upon a fully devoted heart. (Nehemiah 2:5,8)

Make it practical:
God will use you to rebuild and make a difference and you will be available to Him. Consider the following:
1. What opportunity are you praying for today? God puts it in your heart before He shows the way it will be done.

God’s Perfect Promise

THEME: On top of Pike’s Peak in Colorado you can see five states. The vantage point makes all the difference. Romans 8:28 is the “Pike’s Peak” of Romans 8. From Romans 8:28 we will see God’s panoramic plan and our part in it. Do you know Jesus as the Forgiver of your sin and the Guide of your life? Follow Jesus and He will guide you safely through.

I. God’s promise is though we are limited God has full control.

II. God’s promise is though we see one event at a time God has an eternal plan.

1. God uses delightful times = “good”

2. God uses desperate times = “good”

THEME: Easter is a word everyone knows—few understand Easter is the time when God intervened and did what only HE could do. All of us were far from God and in serious trouble because of our sin. Spiritual and physical death is the inevitable result. The God-man Jesus entered time and space and showed us how to live and then He died on a cross as our substitute.

The good news is Jesus rose from the grave and conquered death and hell. He is risen! He is risen indeed! Because of Jesus this life has purpose and those who trust and follow Christ here will be with Him in Heaven forever. Who is Jesus to you? Today give your life to Jesus and watch Him do His supernatural work through you.

I. When you come to Jesus, you find the barriers removed . (Mark 16:1-3)
II. The Resurrection of Jesus is startling . (Mark 16:4-5)
III. The Resurrection means Jesus goes before us if we realize we’ve blown it and need Him. (Mark 16:7)

What will you do with Jesus?

If you had been the only person that ever lived, Jesus would have come and died and rose again to give you eternal life starting here on earth and continuing forever in Heaven. As a result what will you do with Jesus today:

1. Ask Christ to forgive your sin and save you today! Show you are serious by getting baptized and growing with other Christians through His church.

2. If you know Christ in a life-changing way, thank Him for giving His life on the cross for you. Ask Him to help you live for Him now.

I. The motive of a Peacemaker is Christ exalting lives.

1. Never compromise truth.

The Book of Jonah

We are looking at the book of Jonah today—yes, the entire book. We must examine the entire book to understand the entire premise of the book which is God’s love for people. Jonah is an excellent Biblical example of how God does His perfect work with an imperfect instrument/tool. The book of Jonah records one of the greatest missionary/evangelism success stories in history.

A thesis statement for today’s message:
We were created and saved to be the love of God NOT just to demonstrate His love, but to be the love of God. Evangelism is all about LOVE.

God loved the Ninevites and wanted to save them.
Jonah 1:1-2

If God wanted to kill the Ninevites, He could have done it. It is out of His love that God said “I want you to repent.” Who does God love in your life. The answer is everyone .

Evangelism is not tackle football.
God loves people. He wants to reach them through willing people like you and me. According to Sperling’s www.bestplaces.net there are approximately 454,220 people living in the Tulsa, Collinsville, Skiatook, Owasso and Claremore areas. God loves each and every person. It is our responsibility to be the Love of God to them.

God loved Jonah and wanted to use him.

We discover here that Jonah has a problem. (Jonah 1:3a) God loved Jonah enough to correct his disobedience. Circle which Heart best represents you. What percentage of God’s love do you allow God to flow through you? What percentage can God use of you right where you are today?

I. To be filled with God’s righteousness I must
grasp the distinction between:

1. Self-righteous and God’s righteousness.

2. If you’re saved, you’ll want to cooperate with God.

“Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as He is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.”

II. To cooperate with God’s change process I must focus on:

1. Changing one defect at a time.
2. Victory one day at a time.
3. Doing God, not feeling good.
4. People who help me, not hinder me.
5. Progress not perfection.

MAKE IT PRACTICAL

1. Have you honestly been saved by God’s transforming grace?
2. If you’ve been saved, where is God working in you right now:
Attitude? Time management? Finances? Relationships?
Truth telling? Integrity? What is He changing in you today?
3. Are you hanging around people who build up or tear down your walk with God?
4. Thank God He’s not finished with you yet!

2. A process: surrender my will to Christ’s control.

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.”

Today will you…
1. Ask Christ to forgive your sin and lead your life?
2. Follow Jesus in believer’s baptism as God commands?
3. Live in His strength to change you rather than pride, guilt, fear or worry.

...ALL Men are without excuse.

The people who will be saved during the tribulation will probably NOT be current unsaved church members, who have believed Satan’s lie. Most of these will have already said no to God for the last time (Matt 2:31-32). It is likely that this group of unbelievers will not receive a second chance.
Most likely, those saved after the rapture will be those who have never before heard the gospel of Christ.
Therefore ---- TODAY is the Day of Salvation!!!

Spiritual gifts are supernaturally given by God to strengthen His Church. (Romans 12:1-3)

2. The fruit of the Holy Spirit indicates healthy employment of spiritual gifts. (Romans 12: 3-5)
The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Description of spiritual gifts:
1. Prophecy (preaching) is proclaiming God’s truth causing a response. (V. 6)
2. Service is meeting needs in Jesus’ name. (V. 7)

Deuteronomy 6:1-9

Theme: Children are a gift from God. God wants your family to be spiritually healthy and permeated with love. This is effectively done when parents model and teach kids to make wise choices. Parents must be intentional and not haphazard. Today we will see the tremendous opportunity parents have to help kids internalize wise decision making.

I. The goal of parenting is for parents to model and teach children to be fully devoted followers of Christ so that the kids will make wise choices when they are away from parents. (Deut. 6:1-3)

1. Three Generation Rule: what one-generation abhors, the next will tolerate and the third generation will embrace.

2. Study: If both parents are active in church and live a Christian lifestyle, then 78% of kids will. f only mom is active, then 20% of kids will be. If only dad is active, then 55% of kids are active. If both parents are too busy for

God, then only 6% of kids are active followers of Jesus.

Deuteronomy 6:1,3 says to know God's truth so we may do it. With that in mind, what will you do with what you've been taught today? Think on these things:
1. If you are a parent, evaluate how you are teaching and modeling the seven traits from Proverbs and make improvements as needed.
2. Is your home in balance or are God and relationships slighted? What must change?
3. Kids and wives so something special for dad today.
4. If you haven't trusted Christ and been baptized, why not today?

Discipline that Produces Confidence

Theme: As strange as it seems, healthy discipline is a mark of love. Some kids wish they weren't loved so much! The purpose of discipline is not punishment but change of heart leading to a change of action that honors God and helps people. Are you willing to receive discipline from your loving heavenly Father? Only when you are wiling to receive it, parents, can you give it to your child effectively.

I. Good discipline teaches a child to make good choices and learn from poor choices. (Hebrews 12:5-6)

1. Boundaries produce security.

2. Security breeds clarity and consistency.

3. Parents must display unity.

"Do not be deceived., God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary." Galatians 6:7 & 9 (NASB)

II. A disciplined life follows instruction promptly and cheerfully . (Hebrews 12:7)

"Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord."

1. Never discipline in anger.

2. Parents model apology and appreciation.

3. Discipline privately and with instruction and reconciliation. (Hebrews 12:11)

4. Good discipline spares your child a lot of pain.

Do your homework:

If something is only heard, it will be forgotten within 48 hours. If you act on what you've heard within 24 hours, it becomes part of your lifestyle.

1. Are the boundaries clear in your family or do they change?
2. When you are wrong, don't wait to be "caught" but apologize upfront.
3. What one thing has God convicted you about that you need to obey promptly and cheerfully.
4. When you are wrong, if you've never received God's discipline, perhaps it is because you are not His child. (Hebrews 12:8) Ask Christ to forgive your sin and be the Leader of your life.

I. What attracts a couple to each other:

1. Outward looks spark attraction. (v.1-2)

1. Do you give as much effort to improving your inner character as you do your outward appearance? To improve the inner self you could journal, get into an Encourager/Mentoring relationship or study a Biblical book or topic with a friend.
2. How are you earning trust with family members?
3. What is the one thing God prompted you to do through this message?

Theme: What will you be remembered for? Thomas is forever known as the "doubter". But Thomas worked through his doubts and saw Christ as the resurrected Master. It is not wrong to doubt or ask questions. But we must pursue truth and when we do, it leads to Christ who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

I. Recalibrate your life by worshipping with other followers of Christ.

When you miss church, you miss:

1. Jesus' presence
(John 20:19)

2. Jesus' peace.
(John 20:19-20)

3. Strengthening your life with Bible teaching.
(John 20: 21)

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and
good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the
habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you

II. Follow your doubts to faith in the resurrected Christ.

III. Make a clear affirmation of Christ to others.

What's In Your Hand?

The human hand is unique and amazing. There are at least 27 bones in one hand alone. Hands are defined as two intricate, multi-fingered body parts normally located at the end of each arm. They are our chief organs for physically manipulating our environment. The finger tips contain some of the densest area of nerve endings on the human body. With our hands we can touch, point, clap, wave, salute and a thousand other things. With our hands we can choose to do good or evil. That is why the question posed this morning is so important: "What is in your hand?"

I. Moses: "What's in your hand?"
(Exodus 4:1-20)

Vs. 2 "A staff " (or a rod) Moses replied.

The staff in Moses hand represents obedience.

A. God sees our needs("misery")

B. God uses the common place things of man to:

1. Accomplish His will and purpose.

2. To rescue His people.

3. To work miracles.

C. God requires our obedience.

II. David: "What's in your hand?"
(I Samuel 17:38-40)

Vs. 38 "(David) with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine."

The sling shot in David's hand represents faith.

David trusted, had faith in God and did the impossible.

David slew the giant.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Philippians 4:13

III. Young boy: "What's in your hand?"
(John 6:1-15)

Vs. 9 "Andrew spoke up "Here is a boy with five barley loaves and two fish..."

The lunch basket in the young boy's hand represents hope.

When we give all that we are to all that He is, wonders happen and the needs of people are met.

IV. Jesus: "What's in your hand?"
(John 20:26-28)

Vs. 27 "Jesus said to Thomas, "Reach here your finger, and see My hands"

The nail scarred hands of Jesus represents unconditional love.

"Greater love has no one than this that one lay down his life for his friends and you are my friends if you do (obey) what I command you."
(John 15:13-14)

Are you a friend of Jesus?
What's in your hand?
Obey Him; Put your faith and trust in Him; Hope only in Him and love Him with all your hear, soul and mind.

I. Plan A: God reasons with us to bring us to Himself and reality.

1. God both warns and woos us.

"Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord, Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."

II. Plan B: God brings judgment to bring us to Himself and reality.

III. Live the rest of this life to honor Christ.

Theme: "Daniel and the Lion's Den" is a familiar story with a fantastic meaning. Daniel is 85-90 years of age. Yet Daniel's attitude was positive and contagious. God delivered Daniel because he wasn't finished with him yet. May we be faithful to God that His power flows through us.

I. In public live a life of purity.

1. Look for solutions, not just point out problems.

2. Be honest so you have nothing hide.
(Daniel 6:4)

Three levels of giving: (1)tithing; (2) Generosity and (3) sacrifice (change of lifestyle).

III. Jesus smiles when we trust Him to meet our needs.

1. Value the Vision isn't raising funds; it is raising our faith in the God who transforms people to be "fully devoted followers of Christ".

THEME: Trust is a relational word. We trust those who are faithful to do what they promise. God wants us to trust Him. His promises are true. What we do with the resources God blesses us with reveals what we really believe about Him.

I. Review of Value the Vision Progress:

1. 100% of FBCO be fully devoted to Christ.

"The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty."
Proverbs 21:5

2. Set aside $1,000 for emergencies and do the debt snowball to erase all consumer debt within two years.

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender."
Proverbs 22:6-7

3. Build a 3-6 month reserve fund and develop a spending plan to pay cash, not borrow.

4. Scriptural investment to build wealth to extend the kingdom, help others and enjoy.

5. Tithe first and give offering to Value the Vision, etc.

"A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord."

II. The cursed life: resenting wise management of resources.
(Malachi 3:8-9)

"You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it."

III. The blessed life: Putting God in first place.
(Malachi 3:11-12)

1. In Scripture "10" is the number of testing.

"Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life." Revelation 2:10

2. We don't give to get, we give out of gratitude.

Trust Test: Tithe everything for six months and if God's blessing is absent, you get it all back.

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices-mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law-justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former."

1. Take initiative to give not take from relationships.

Theme: Jesus asserted His equality with God with seven "I Am" statements. Today Christ reminds us He is the Great Shepherd and we are to follow Him. Following after any other teaching leads to frustration. Following Christ is joy. Who are you following?

I. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who cares for the sheep. (John 10:9)

1. Jesus leads and we follow Him.

2. Jesus feeds and we are strengthened.

II. The sheep are content when we manage the Shepherd's resources well.

1. The tithe is the training wheels of a Christian.

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."

2. Generous giving is the thunder that follows the lightning of God's grace.

III. The Good Shepherd gave His life for you.

Make it practical!

1. Have you asked Jesus to forgive your sin and lead your life"
2. Examine your financial life and make the changes the Good Shepherd wants you to make.

3 Only when the bread is eaten does it become part of you.

2 In what areas have you delayed obeying Christ? Start today.
3 Share Christ, the Bread of Life, with someone who is starving for the real thing today.

A marriage under God's authority should be a place for total intimacy, complete acceptance and a commitment to solve challenges. When a marriage is violated, there is betrayal and pain. God says when a Christian is apathetic to God, it is equal to adultery. God wants to draw back anyone who has strayed from Him. Have you?

I. Caution: Recognize the symptoms of a hard heart.

1. You resist rather than welcome the changes scripture teaches.

2. A once fruitful life is now barren.

3. You are not paying attention even now.

II. Command to follow: Break-up fallow ground:

1. Repent of sin and restore relationships.

2. Seek God and follow His way.

1. Love God: Worship and learn together.

1. Pray promise centered, not problem centered prayers.

Theme: When your physical body is in balance you have health. When your body is out of balance, you are sick because not all parts are working right. Spiritually if an individual Christ-follower gets out of balance, there is spiritual sickness. A church is just the sum of individual Christ-followers. Jesus' interaction with Mary and Martha reveals how He brings us back to spiritual health. How does the Great Physician, Jesus, diagnose your spiritual health?

I. God's design is for you to enjoy spiritual health by authentically worshipping and serving Him in the way He leads:

Traits of Martha's
1. Responsible
2. Get things done.
3. Anxiety within
4. Agitation at others.

Traits of Mary's
1. Passionate about a cause.
2. Eager
3. Selfish without service.
4. Shallow and distrusted.

II. Key to a balanced life is cultivating Mary's heart and Martha's hands:

1. Intimacy is an intentional choice to clear out the clutter.

2. Focus on Christ in worship.

3. Honor Him with extravagant service.

How's your spiritual health? Are you balanced in worship of Christ and extravagant service to Him? Answer the following and receive the spiritual health God wants to give you.

1. Are you more like Mary or Martha?
2. Is your worship of Christ real and intimate? If not, why not?

Why We Hurt The Ones We Love

Theme: People become friends and family because they care for each other. However, all too often those we love hurt because of things that are said and done. God wants you to be in kind relationships that last. In James we will see why we hurt those we love and how to mend that flaw through Christ.

I. The cause of why we hurt those we love. (4:1-3)

1. We are selfish. (v.1-2)

2. We exploit God. (v.3)

Act on What You’ve Heard
What you hear is soon forgotten. What you act on becomes a part of you. James 1:22 says “be doers of the word and not hearers only.”
